Bad news: habeas corpus suspended; abduction, torture, and “disappearance” of people at the president’s discretion authorized; president, vice president, Rumsfeld, Gonzales, and others given immunity from prosecution for war crimes; genocide in Sudan continues; Iraq bloodbath reaches the level of genocide with no end in sight; Avigdor Liberman joins Israeli government; war on Iran remains a possibility; Russians to develop new generation of intercontinental nuclear-armed missiles; Pakistan and India test-fire missiles; U.S. and other nations’ intercontinental nuclear strike forces remain on hair-trigger alert. And oh yeah, atmospheric CO2 was found to be “about 30% higher than at any time, and methane 130% higher than at any time;” and the rate of increase for CO2 is 200 times faster than at any time in the last 650,000 years.

Good news: One-party rule in Washington ends, as Democrats take both houses of congress; the Democrats will apparently hold hearings on Administration lawlessness and on war profiteering; no war on Iran yet; Earth still in one piece.

Re prospects for war on Iran: See THE NEXT ACT - Is a damaged Administration less likely to attack Iran, or more? by SEYMOUR M. HERSH. See also this. Highlight: “I think he is going to do it.” - John Pike, a savvy military and intelligence analyst and the director of Globalsecurity.org. But uncertainties abound.
